During my RISD Museum fellowship, I published an article about an art piece I made inspired by the tagging system in the Costume and Textile collection. The items that haven’t been aquisitioned yet are given manilla tags while permanent items are given twill tape which is sewn onto the sleeve. In the past they would either directly write or sew onto the item which was very damaging to the object and made it harder to find the aquisitioned number in the collections closet. I portrayed this by making a traditional shift dress and covered it in manilla tags and twill tape with real collection numbers of items in the Costume and Textile collection. Using the same techniques and similar materials in Their own collection, this piece shows how easy the new system is compared to the older one.
